Are we living in the last century of our civilization? Is it possible that all of our technology, knowledge and wealth cannot save us from ourselves? Could our society actually be

heading towards collapse?

A dramatic preview of an unprecedented ABC News event called “Earth 2100.”
According to many of the world’s top scientists, the answer is yes, unless we take action now.

Funny, if a Christian said these are the ‘last days’ he would be called a kook!

Obama Debunks Rumors

Here’s a quick excerpt
Looking to take the wind out of the sails flying against him by the rumor mill, Barack Obama is launching a website designed to debunk rumors about him and his wife.  Like the latest one that wife Michelle Obama used the word ‘whitey’ from the pulpit of a church while attempting to help the Senator during his campaign.  Good luck with the site actually helping stop such rumors spread, lol.  Read a lot more about this here: http://news.aol.com/elections/story/_a/obama-launches-site-to-debunk-rumors/20080612154409990001?icid=100214839×1203913544×1200156562.

Sweden’s new wiretapping law ‘much worse than the Stasi’

bmarcel wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
On June 17th the Swedish parliament is set to vote on the introduction of a new “signal surveillance” law.
What the law means is that all telephone and internet operators will be forced to attach a large cable to the state’s supercomputer, where the state will be able to keep a record of everything said in telephone conversations, surfed on the web or written on the internet.
The law can best be described by the more explanatory term “general surveillance”. Instead of just criminal suspects having their phones tapped, now everyone will be tapped via their phones, emails, web surfing, faxes etc.
But the state won’t keep a record of everything. First it will scan all phone calls, emails and so on, in real time. Anything that is “considered interesting” on the basis of 250,000 search criteria, will be saved for further investigation.
All our phone calls, emails and surfing […]

The death of Magna Carta has been much exaggerated

Here’s a quick excerpt
Meanwhile, on the 42 days’ detention limit issue itself the vote was won but the argument goes on. The government’s hair’s breadth victory last night, achieved through some epic and unsavoury horse-trading, may have staved off immediate political disaster for Gordon Brown’s premiership, but there is a widespread belief that the House of Lords will vote the measure down. The argument this morning on the Today programme (0810) between Lords Carlile (for) and Goldsmith (against) illustrated what is to come. Goldsmith said in effect that destroying our fundamental values, which he thinks the 42-day limit does, undermines our fight against the Islamists who are attacking those values and that we can only achieve victory against them if we show them that our values are better. Carlile said that the ultimate civil liberty was national security, and that the 42-day limit was necessary to have law in place to cope with […]

The Economist accused Putin’s relative of theft of helicopter secrets in Germany

pbtt wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
The British weekly The Economist declared that Russia had been strengthening its intelligence activity in the European Union member-states.
AIA already reported that a former executive at Eurocopter, the helicopter manufacturing company in the EADS group, went on trial in Germany this week for selling documents about the aircraft to Russian intelligence. The EADS engineer - identified only as Werner Franz G. (44) - is accused of providing “predominantly civil but also military” information to an “agent of a Russian intelligence service.” The name of an employee of the Russian state agency Roskosmos, Vladimir Vozhzhov has sounded in this connection.
Werner Franz G. told investigators that he really transferred files and compact discs with the description of various helicopters. The Office of Public Prosecutor of Munich declared that during one of meetings Vozhzhov allegedly showed interest about military projects of Germany.
Vladimir Vozhzhov was detained in the Vienna, however after an appropriating […]

Lebanon army defuses bomb near base

pbtt wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
The Lebanese army defused a roadside bomb on Thursday near a northern military base, a security official said.
“A special bomb disposal unit defused the bomb, which was placed on the side of the road some three kilometers (two miles) away from Qleiat airport, where the army has a base,” the source told AFP.
The device, hidden under a bucket and weighing two-five kilogrammes (4.5-11 pounds), was similar to one that killed a soldier at an army intelligence post in the same region on May 31.
The airport is used solely by the army. It is located near the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp, which was devastated during a three-month siege last year in which the army eventually vanquished gunmen from an Al-Qaeda inspired extremist group.
