                                                       TIM RUSSERT
                                                       1950 -2008
I’m actually in tears for a man I didn’t know personally but through the last ten years he was an active part pf my daily life via Morning news.  Tim Russert was THE best at what he did. Through his analysis and detailed disection of American Politics, Tim Russert inadvertently taught me another aspect of what to look for when trying to grapple with political issues. He was a hardass but he had a  smile that could make you forget he was about to hand you your butt on a platter. Damn that man was good. God Bless his family and His soul.  He will be missed.

Squashing the Beef in S. Korea

Here’s a quick excerpt
More on the beef thang, from Al Jazeera:
The US government says it will encourage US beef exporters to label meat showing the age of cows slaughtered in a bid to ease tensions in South Korea.
Protesters have been demonstrating in Seoul for weeks over a new trade deal that would resume beef imports from the US five years after a ban was imposed…

…Such an approach could be a way to address anger in South Korea without altering an April agreement that fully resumes beef imports that were banned after a case of mad cow disease was detected in the US in 2003…

…Protesters have given the government a June 20 deadline to come up with a better deal on the US beef imports…

…Ben Nelson, a Democrat from the cattle-producing state of Nebraska, opposed banning older cattle, saying the move might prompt other countries to demand such concessions.

“They created the problem; they’re going […]

LAPD shot Usman; Handcuffed when examined! WE MISS U! & WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT OFFICER JOSEPH CRUZ & HIS PARTNER DID TO YOU!

Here’s a quick excerpt
Hello eveyone,
This blog has been created for those wanting answers on the recent killing of Usman Chaudhry. Usman was a 21 year old autistic young man that was HANDCUFFED & SHOT multiple times by the LAPD on March 25, 2008 at 4:00 a.m. 1400 N. Curson Ave, Hollywood, CA. LAPD notified his family 21 days later even though Officer Joseph Cruz and his partner (who still remains unnamed) ran Usman’s identification card prior to the shooting.
Usman’s family and friends are in desperate need of answers to the following questions:
1. Why was his family notified 21 days after his death when the officers had Usman in custody (in handcuffs) and had the chance to run his id?
2. Was his death not important because LAPD believed him to be homeless? Are homeless people not human beings?
3. Who do we call for help and trust when it is the police taking the lives of […]

March 18, 1997 - Officer Kevin Gaines road rage shootout
Around 4:00 pm on March 18, 1997, undercover LAPD officer Frank Lyga shot and killed Rampart CRASH officer Kevin Gaines in self-defense following a case of apparent road rage.[8] [10] According to Lyga’s and other witness testimony, Gaines, blasting rap music, pulled his green SUV up to Lyga’s Buick. Gaines had a shaved head and wore his sweatshirt open to his navel, exposing the breadth of his chest. Lyga looked over at Gaines, who returned his stare, and said “Can I help you?”
“No. Roll up that window, you punk motherfucker,” Gaines responded, “or I’ll put a cap up your ass.”[10]
“Do you have a problem?” Lyga asked.
“I’m your problem, motherfucker.” replied Gaines. “Pull over right now and I’ll kick your ass!”
Gaines flashed gang signs at Officer Lyga and pointed to the side of the road. Lyga nodded […]

UFO reported by police officers to UK Ministry of Defence (drawing included)

Sara wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
I don’t usually post items like this but, with all the excitement caused by the FOIA release of docs by the Ministry of Defence, I thought it might be fun. BTW, I have never seen a UFO and have not formed an opinion as to what such phenomena might be.
This report was included in the information released by the Ministry of Defence under the Freedom of Information Act (UK). Tip o’ the hat to Nick Pope who discovered this report in DEF 31/173 (we sifted through the pdf and found this info starting at page 240).
The reason this report is so interesting is because not only was the sighting witnessed (in June, 1984) by a local resident and her neighbor, but, when the police arrived to take her report, the object was still visible. The police viewed the object with binoculars and then made a drawing of […]

Turkey and Secularism

unknown wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
In a move that will unfortunately anger members of the Islamic movement in Turkey, the country’s Constitutional Court recently decided to reinstate bans on head scarves in Turkey’s universities. The bill had been passed at the urging of Turkey’s prime minister, was a pair of constitutional amendments that had the overwhelming support of the parliament. The opposition party, representing members of academia, the military, the legal system and other secularists, mounted an appeal to the amendments. Even more so, Turkey’s chief prosecutor has threatened to try and get Justice and Development Party, or AKP, who passed the amendments banned.
It is obvious that Turkey, as a country whose modern founders placed a heavy emphasis on secularism, should be allowed to maintain the separation between religion and the public sphere. However, the methods by which they are attempting to enforce this are obviously questionable. Secularist values include those of liberalism, […]

MI5 asks architects to keep plans secret

unknown wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
MI5 has called on architects and planners to withhold information from the public to stop it falling into the hands of those with ‘hostile intent’.
An MI5 advisor told the AJ that by publishing detailed security measures in online planning applications, architects and planning authorities could be giving terrorists a ‘head start’.
The officer added: ‘It’s a pre-emptive measure. It does not mean people do not get to see what a scheme will look like, but we have to take steps to prevent someone with hostile intent from accessing it. These people are bloody clever and we shouldn’t be giving them gifts.’
The government has sent letters to chief planning officers throughout the UK asking planning departments not to publish plans which detail potential weak points in buildings, such as where bollards meet the foundations.
Head of Arup Security Consulting David Hadden said: ‘There is a need to recognise that the […]

Security chief says al Qaeda plotting in Denmark

pbtt wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Al Qaeda is planning an attack in Denmark, the head of the Danish security police said on Friday, two weeks after the network claimed responsibility for a deadly bombing at the Danish embassy in Pakistan.
“We see now — also in cases not yet public — a determined steering, training and planning of a terror attack on Danish soil with management from al Qaeda,” Security and Intelligence Service (PET) head Jakob Scharf said in an interview published on newspaper Nyhedsavisen’s website.
Al Qaeda said earlier this month it was behind a suicide attack on Denmark’s embassy in the Pakistani capital Islamabad that killed six and injured 20.
It called the act revenge for the 2005 publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. Most Muslims consider physical representations of the founder of Islam blasphemous.
