Southern California was rocked today by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake late Tuesday morning, swaying buildings in downtown Los Angeles for several seconds. The earthquake hit at 11:42 a.m. PT and was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego and slightly in Las Vegas. The quake was centered about 45 km southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills. Preliminary information from the United States Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8 but the magnitude decreased to a 5.4. This is the largest earthquake to hit a populated area of Southern California since 1999, which was a 7.1 magnitude. A 5.4 magnitude is considered “moderate”, which can cause slight damage to buildings and other structures.
No immediate reports of damage was given and so far there have been no flight delays or cancellations at Los Angeles International Airport. San Bernardino County fire dispatch also had no immediate reports of damage. There […]
