News broke this month that yet another a Catholic priest has been accused of sexually abusing two boys albeit 20 years ago. This priest who has been said to have the inside track within the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Arch Diocese has been suspended pending an investigation. It seems that every couple of months a story casting a Catholic priest under the spotlight rises to the fore. Did we mention that Wallace Harris has a Barbados connection? Of course we didn’t!
In fairness to many of these priests who are accused decades later of sex crimes, it often happens way too long after the fact. How can the officials conclusively prove the innocence of the accuse in the circumstances?
This story reminded us that we had bookmarked a story last week regarding the strength of the gay lobby. As the story goes a biology […]

of skin cancer because of too much sun exposure.

The research team treated 8 ultramarathon

runners with malignant skin cancer.

         They recruited 210 marathon runners

for their study and matched them for age

and sex with 210 other people they signed up

at 5 recreation centers in Austria. All 420 of the

people were screened by a dermatologist.

                The Marathon runners showed

abnormal moles and lesions. 24 of them

were referred for surgical treatment.

While 14 treatment referrals were among

non marathoners.

The highest rate of referral for

treatment was 19% and they trained the most.

THis is oveer 43.5 miles per week. It is a fact

being a black person makes one less likely to
have skin cancer because we have all our melanin.

Self-Inflicted Wounds
Outlook India
KPS Gill
Once again, in one more Indian province, the extreme fragility of order has been demonstrated. A matter of almost trifling significance has been allowed to swell – indeed, has been engineered – into a national crisis. For the past seven years, India has been flaunting data on declining fatalities in the conflict with Pakistan-backed terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) as evidence of our successes in the state.

But the abrupt meltdown in J&K following upon the approval and subsequent revocation of the land transfer to the Amarnath Shrine Board sharply underlines the question of the credibility and competence of the state, and of the legitimacy of the national and regional leadership among an ever-widening segment of the population.

There is clear evidence of an extraordinary loss of faith, and the deficit of trust has rapidly augmented into endemic mistrust. Conspiracy theories abound, and certain, obviously […]

How Roosevelt’s Office of Strategic Services followed Britain’s example

unknown wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
The Office of Strategic Services was the vast American espionage organisation created by President Franklin Roosevelt in the Second World War and directly modelled on Britain’s intelligence services.
The OSS, which evolved into the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after the war, was created virtually from scratch in 1942, and swiftly evolved into a wide intelligence-gathering network, employing soldiers, lawyers, actors, sportsmen, academics and many others.

Has the Pentagon built a secret spy bunker in Gloucestershire?

pbtt wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
A GLOUCESTERSHIRE based civil liberties supporter claims the Americans have built a secret listening post deep in the heart of the Forest of Dean.
Roger Horsfield, 74, who previously served with the Royal Signals, says he knows there is an underground bunker “within a 10 mile radius” of Speech House near Coleford.
Mr Horsfield, a former Forest of Dean District councillor, claims the Pentagon - headquarters of the US Department of Defence - has built a number of the secret listening posts in countries across Europe to gather intelligence including listening out for potential terror threats.
One, he says, is in the Forest of Dean.
“One theory is that it has been built to spy on GCHQ (the Cheltenham based Government listening post), because they don’t trust the allies, but I think that is unlikely,” said Mr Horsfield.
He claims the listening posts were installed after the poor quality of intelligence in the run up […]

Fight in Georgia Exposed Weak Points in Kremlin’s Aging Army

pbtt wrote an interesting post today on
Here’s a quick excerpt
MOSCOW — The Kremlin’s short and victorious campaign in Georgia shows that Russia’s military has improved from its dilapidated state in the 1990s, but analysts said the aging equipment and tactics also underscored how much more work Moscow faces in its quest to turn its army into a world-class fighting force.
Modernizing Russia’s military has been a major priority for the Kremlin, which has boosted annual military spending from about $7 billion in the late 1990s to about $35 billion today, with further increases planned. Last year, then-President Vladimir Putin installed a new defense minister who vowed to accelerate efforts …
